Andriyan Grigoryevich Nikolayev (1929-2004) was the third Soviet Cosmonaut to fly in space (on Vostok 3). The sixty-four orbit, August 11-15, 1962, mission set an endurance record that the United States would not match until Gemini 4 in 1965. His second (and final) mission, Soyuz 9, lasted nearly eighteen days, June 1-19, 1970, again setting an endurance record. It was soon after this flight that he made his trip to the U.S. Interestingly, Nikolayev married Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman to fly in space (on Vostok 6), on November 3, 1963, in a ceremony presided over by Nikita Khrushchev. Note that most all of these photos are of the rare and desirable "red letter" variety. Quite an historic collection. Overall condition is extremely fine.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
