1876 Virginia and Truckee Railroad Train Register and Payroll Card. A huge 20.25" x 15.5" ledger sheet, partially printed and filled in by hand. The top reads: "Virginia and Truckee Railroad./ Train Register PM. Time Table No. 8. Carson, July 9" 1876". There are twenty-one trains listed across the top by hand with the following information handwritten in as applicable: Conductor, Engine, and Engineer (names); Reno, Huffakers, Steamboat, Washoe, Franktown, Mill Station, Carson, Empire, M'd House, Silver, Scales, Gold Hill, and Virginia (times). At the bottom are notations for the consigned loads carried by the various train cars- mostly lumber or wood. An incredible snapshot of an important western train line's operations for one day. Note that this is only five days after our country's Bicentennial celebration. Very fine.

Also, a 3.75" x 2.25" Virginia and Truckee payroll card, filled in by hand, showing that Thomas Lynch had worked four days in September 1876 at $3.00 per day. Signed by the foreman "Frank Kelly" on the front and the Superintendent "J. J. Holmes" and Time Clerk "Charles K. Doris" on the verso. Marked as having been paid on September 30, 1876, across the front. Very fine.
