    Description

4c Inverted Center, Specimen Overprint (296a-S), deep, rich color, faint inverted "Specimen" handstamp in the lower left corner of the vignette; perfs just in at bottom, faint diagonal crease (visible only when dipped), moderately disturbed original gum, fresh and attractive.

    Scott $10,000

A VERY COLLECTABLE EXAMPLE OF THIS RARE INVERT - WITH THE REGULAR 4¢ INVERT BEING SO RARE, THE SPECIMEN IS THE ONLY WAY THAT MOST COLLECTORS CAN EVER HOPE TO FILL THE SPACE IN THEIR COLLECTION.

    Expertization: 2008 PSE Certificate

The 4¢ Pan-American invert, unlike the 1¢ and 2¢ inverts, did not come out through the Post Office as a legitimate error, but rather was a Special Printing that was distributed to selected Officials and later used to acquire stamps needed for the Post Office archives. Reportedly one sheet of 400 was printed with an unknown quantity of those 400 overprinted with the Specimen handstamp. Virtually all of the Specimens have disturbed gum and many are thinned from having been stuck down onto a sheet of paper in the archives.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
