A VERY RARE SELECTION OF ITEMS FOR THE SPECIALIST.

The "Ultramar" overprint was applied by the Lisbon Postal Administration to Specimen stamps arriving from the Universal Postal Union headquarters in Berne, and destined to be placed in the postal reference collections which the Portuguese Empire maintained in several of its colonies. It is believed that two such archives have been liquidated in the philatelic market. In each of the archives many of the stamps were destroyed beyond rescue, and therefore, what remains is very rare, and only one or two examples of each of these stamps can exist in the market.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
