    1847 Mint Block of Four

    #1, 1847, 5c Brown. (Original Gum - Hinged). Rare world class multiple. Excellent color for a stamp minted in 1847, a detailed impression from a hand engraved plate, several vertical natural gum creases (common for this issue since the gum was brushed on by hand). A thin in the upper right stamp and a thin at the bottom center, large even margins on three sides with bottom margin just cutting into the design. Hinge remnant and pencil notations on the back, spectacular showpiece of this rare multiple. Fine to Very Fine; 2008 PSE Certificate. Scott $42,500;
