SPECIAL AUTOGRAPH PRESENTATIONS
United States' Mercury Seven Astronauts and Soviet Union's First
Eleven Cosmonauts in Space: Two Separate Signed Photos in Elaborate
Framed Display with Launch Photos, Engraved Plaques, and Flags.
At left is a 9.75" x 7.25" (sight size) matte finish B&W photo
picturing the first seven astronauts chosen by NASA for their Man
in Space project. This photo, showing the astronauts inspecting a
Mercury Atlas model, was one of a series of photos taken at Langley
Research Center. All seven of these brave men, who laid the
groundwork for America's space program, have signed in various inks
with the earliest forms of their signatures: "Alan B Shepard
Jr", "Walter M. Schirra Jr", "John H. Glenn,
Jr.", "Virgil I. Grissom", "M. Scott Carpenter",
"Donald K. Slayton", and "Leroy G. Cooper, Jr". To
the right is a 7.25" x 11.75" (sight size) color photo of the
Mercury-Atlas 4 at launch. Next over is the same size photo, the
launch of Voskhod 1 in color. At far right is an ultra-rare Soviet
photo signed by eleven cosmonauts, their first to fly in space,
including: Yuri Gagarin (Vostok 1); Gherman Titov (Vostok 2);
Andriyan Nikolayev (Vostok 4); Valery Bykovsky (Vostok 5);
Valentina Tereshkova (Vostok 6); Vladimir Komarov, Konstantin
Feoktistov, & Boris Yegorov (Voskhod 1); and Pavel Belyayev, &
Alexei Leonov (Voskhod 2). At top are U.S. and U.S.S.R. flags with
the engraved title "THE SPACE RACE." This triple-matted and framed
display measures 48" x 24". Heritage has offered hundreds of
space-related space displays since 2007; this one is one of the
most interesting, creative, and exciting pieces we have ever
handled. What a great display this would make for your home,
office, or museum! The cosmonaut photo has some crinkling and both
photos have variations in the boldness of the signatures. Very
fine.
