Description
Port Koneta (Wapakoneta): Original 1946-era Airfield Photo of a Vultee BT-13 Training Plane Engine Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. A 3.25" x 2.25" B&W snapshot photo of Vultee BT-13 propeller and engine cowl. Port Koneta was an airport built in 1946 just north of Wapakoneta on the old Brewery Road. The U.S. Army Air Force put on a show of planes & helicopters during the airfield's official dedication on September 8, 1946, and it's likely that's when a teenaged Neil Armstrong took this photo. Port Koneta is where Armstrong took flying lessons and earned his flight certificate. On the verso Neil's mother Viola has written "3. / 'Port Koneta'/ Wapakoneta, Ohio/ Property of Neil A. Armstrong". Light contrast, very good. Sealed in a numbered archival holder. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.Learn more about
