Description

Iconic Apollo 11 bootprint photo presented by Armstrong

Neil Armstrong: Large Presentation Photo to LIFE Magazine Editor Ed Thompson, circa 1969-1970, Signed on the Mat Mentioning Steps on the Moon, with Zarelli Letter of Authenticity, in Framed Display. A 10.75" x 13.75" color photo (NASA image #AS11-40-5880) taken by Aldrin of his boot leaving a print in the moondust on the surface. It is mounted to a 16" x 20" matboard which is signed at the lower area in black felt tip: "To Ed Thompson--/ With Thanks For Making The Steps/ Up To This One A Little More/ Pleasant Than They Might Have Been. --/ Neil Armstrong/ Apollo 11". Thompson's LIFE magazine, of course, covered the years up to the lunar landing thoroughly with numerous cover stories and exclusive interviews. An ultra-rare handwritten mention of lunar steps by the man who made the first ones. Framed to an overall 18" x 22". Included with the lot is a signed LOA from Steve Zarelli. The photo is just slightly faded to green as is common but the signature and inscription is bold and dark. Very fine.
