Description

NASA film of Ed White's historic EVA.

Gemini 4: Original 16mm Color Film Print of America's First Spacewalk Given by NASA to Ed White II in 1966 and Directly from His Personal Collection. An exciting and amazing item: nearly 250 feet of 16mm color print film on a 400 foot reel in a can with a "NASA - Manned Spacecraft Center" label. Attached with tape to the can is a note from a longtime NACA/NASA employee to White: "1-10-66/ Ed/ This is the last of the items you wanted/ Paul Sturtevant". The MSC label contains the following information: Date "6-4-65"/ Roll No. "S65-226"/ Type of Film "Color Print"/ Footage "233"/ Subject "GT-4 O/B EVA Roll #2 4x1 On Board". Written on a piece of masking tape on the can is "P Sturtevant". On another piece of masking tape on the end of the film is written "S65-226 P". This has not been unreeled or viewed by us but it should be assumed that it is a first generation print of film taken of White's dramatic spacewalk, the first for an American and the first ever self-propelled EVA. Ed White II embraced every opportunity to speak in public about the U.S. Space program and the Gemini 4 mission. It seems very likely that he might have used this film during his presentations just as he did the Gemini slides we sold in our last Space Exploration auction for $21,510 (Auction 6037, Lot 41017). A rare opportunity to own an early print of such a major event in America's space history. Apparently excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a signed certificate of authenticity from Ed White III.
