VINTAGE NASA PHOTOS

Gemini 11 Vintage NASA "Red Number" Color Photo, Image S-66-53900: Liftoff from Pad 19 at Cape Kennedy. An original chromogenic 8" x 10" shot of this Gemini-Titan launch on Kodak fiber-based paper bearing the "A Kodak Paper" watermark on the verso. Three corners with flaws. Fine.

The Gemini 11 mission, launched on September 12, 1966, was a remarkable achievement in NASA's space program. Commanded by Charles "Pete" Conrad and piloted by Richard F. Gordon Jr., the mission set a new altitude record for a crewed Earth-orbital flight, reaching 1,369 kilometers (851 miles). Gemini 11 successfully demonstrated the ability to rendezvous and dock with an Agena target vehicle on the first orbit, a crucial skill for future lunar missions. The crew also conducted groundbreaking experiments, including creating an artificial gravity environment by tethering the Gemini spacecraft to the Agena and rotating them slowly.
