Charles Conrad Signed Large Apollo 12 Lunar Surface Photo with Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch and Certificate of Authenticity from Novaspace, in Framed Display. A 19.25" x 15.25" (sight size) B&W image of Conrad standing next to the Surveyor III spacecraft with the Lunar Module Intrepid in the distant background. Signed in black felt tip: "Charles Conrad Jr/ Cdr. Apollo XII". Professionally double matted and framed to an overall 27" x 27". Novaspace COA included. Excellent.The Apollo 12 moonwalkers' visit to Surveyor 3 on November 20, 1969, was a groundbreaking moment in space exploration history. Astronauts Pete Conrad and Alan Bean, having achieved a precision landing just 600 feet from the unmanned probe, ventured to examine the spacecraft that had been on the lunar surface for 31 months. This marked the first and only time humans have inspected a probe on another celestial body. The astronauts found Surveyor 3 coated in lunar dust, giving it a light tan appearance. Equipped with specialized tools, including modified bolt-cutters, they successfully retrieved several key components: the television camera, sections of tubing, a piece of cable, and the soil sampler scoop. These items were carefully collected for later study of long-term lunar environmental effects on materials. The visit not only demonstrated NASA's improved landing accuracy but also provided invaluable scientific data, bridging the gap between robotic and human spaceflight in a single, remarkable lunar encounter that continues to fascinate space enthusiasts and scientists alike.
