THE BUZZ ALDRIN COLLECTION

A rare and highly desirable original NASA photo

Buzz Aldrin: Gemini 12 EVA "First Selfie in Space" NASA Original "Red Number" Color Photo, Image S-66-62926, Originally from His Personal Collection, with Certificate of Authenticity. A vintage 8" x 10" chromogenic glossy print on Kodak fiber-based paper bearing the "A Kodak Paper" watermark on the verso, of Aldrin during a mission EVA. A very desirable and popular image. This is the first unsigned "red number" example Heritage Auctions has offered. A rare opportunity. Extremely fine.

As this was the last flight of the Gemini program, it was very important to fine-tune the art of an astronaut working efficiently outside of the spacecraft, something that had not yet been perfected. Buzz Aldrin made a (then) record three EVAs on this flight, all of which accomplished multiple goals. Two were of the "stand-up" variety and one was tethered. The success of these spacewalks was attributed to an underwater training program that he worked out. The detail in this photo is amazing, very displayable.
