Description

Apollo 11: Neil Armstrong Signed Large Lunar Surface Color Photo on a Presentation Mat, Inscribed to Ambassador George Bush, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified and Encapsulated by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty. A 20" x 16" photo of Buzz Aldrin facing the American flag on the moon. It is mounted to a 24" x 20" buff mat on which is written in black ink: "To Ambassador George Bush--/ With the Respect, Admiration & Best Wishes of a Fellow Aviator--/ Neil Armstrong Apollo 11". George Herbert Walker Bush was U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations from 1971 to 1973 and, of course, U.S. President from 1989-1993. During World War II, he was a naval aviator flying fifty-eight missions for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals. The inscription and signature on this piece is a bit smeared. We don't know whether Armstrong signed another that ended up with Bush or that this, for some reason, was never sent to Bush. In any case, a very desirable piece from one legendary aviator to another. Photo bright and clear, mat clean, very fine save for ink smearing. Sealed in a numbered archival holder. This lot will include a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
