AUTOGRAPHS

Alan Bean Signed Apollo 12 Lunar Surface Color Photo with Added Comments. A 10" x 8" silk finish photo on Kodak Professional paper of Bean removing the RTG (Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator) fuel element from its graphite cask at the Lunar Module Intrepid during the Apollo 12 mission. He has signed in silver felt tip: "An island of refuge in an Ocean of Storms/ Alan Bean/ Apollo 12". A great quote on a stunning image. Excellent.

The Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator (RTG) was used on Apollo 12 to provide long-term electrical power for scientific instruments left on the lunar surface. It converted heat from the radioactive decay of plutonium-238 into electricity, offering a reliable power source that could operate continuously for years without relying on solar energy. This allowed the Apollo Lunar Surface Experiments Package (ALSEP) to continue collecting and transmitting valuable scientific data about the Moon long after the astronauts had returned to Earth.
