Description
Apollo 12 Flown American Flag Directly from the Collection of a Mission Control Center Flight Controller. A 5.75" x 3.75" U.S. silk flag matted to an 11" x 14" certificate with the printed text: "This flag was carried to the moon by the crew of Apollo 12/ November 19, 1969 - Ocean of Storms". Beneath that is a metallic reproduction of the plaque left on the moon with the crew's facsimile signatures. Apollo 12 was the second manned moon landing mission with Commander Pete Conrad, Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean, and Command Module Pilot Richard Gordon aboard. Very fine condition with some uneven toning around the edges of the certificate.Included with this lot is a signed Letter of Authenticity that reads: "I, Larry W. Strimple, certify that this flag was carried to the moon on Apollo 12 in November, 1969. I was a 'LEM CONTROL' flight controller in the MCC during this mission, responsible for monitoring the Guidance and Propulsion Systems aboard the LEM. This flag was presented to me as is by the crew of Apollo 12 upon the conclusion of the mission. It has remained in my possession ever since that time."
