Description
Apollo 12 Crew-Signed Moonlanding Cover, also Signed by Wernher von Braun, Robert Gilruth, Hermann Oberth, and Others. A 6.25" x 4.5" philatelic cover bearing a 10¢ "First Man On The Moon" stamp machine canceled at cape Canaveral on November 19, 1969, the day the Lunar Module Intrepid landed in the Ocean of Storms. The applied color cachet is of Alan Bean's artwork and he has signed it: "Alan Bean". The other two crewmembers have signed above: "Charles Conrad Jr." and "Dick Gordon". Quite displayable. Printed address. Very fine. Also, on various areas of the cover are the signatures of the following important contributors to the Apollo program:Wernher von Braun - Chief architect of the Saturn V; Director of MSFC.
Robert R. Gilruth - Director of NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center.
Hermann Oberth - Pioneering German physicist and visionary, regarded as one of the founding fathers of rocketry.
Rudolf Nubel - German rocket enthusiast, worked for Oberth.
Johannes Geiss - German physicist, devised the Apollo Solar Wind Composition Experiment.
Friedrich Schmiedl - Austrian rocket pioneer, launched the first rocket mail in 1931.
Gerhard Zucker - German rocket mail pioneer.
The presence of the complete Apollo 12 crew's signatures alone makes this a coveted collectible. The addition of Hermann Oberth, a titan of astronautical science whose theoretical work laid the foundation for spaceflight, elevates this piece into a rarified category. The further inclusion of von Braun, Gilruth and other notable space-related figures enhances its historical depth. Few Apollo covers combine astronaut, engineering, and pioneer signatures in such a concentrated fashion. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke
