Description
Rare W.M. Marston Breech-Loading Percussion Shotgun.Serial no. 46, 12-gauge, 29-inch barrel with brass bead front sight. Blued finish. Scroll engraved receiver and hammer. Left side of receiver marked: W.M. MARSTON PATENTED 1850 NEW YORK. Checkered straight walnut stock. Ramrod. According to Flayderman, estimated less than 300 produced. Sold together with a copy of a January 8, 1853 Scientific American article complete with period drawings of the guns and information about the Marston breech-loading technology.
Condition: Very good. Showing traces of original finish, the balance a mottled grey age patina with scattered wear and pitting. Wood showing minor scuffs and scratches. Two noticeable dings to left side of stock in checkering. Action crisp.
