Fine & Engraved L.C. Smith Crown Grade Double Barrel Shotgun.Serial no. 26603, 20-gauge, 28-inch barrels with textured rib and fixed white bead sights. Blued finish. Base of barrels and rib scroll engraved. Barrels marked: L.C. SMITH CROWN GRADE and L.C. SMITH GUN CO., INC. FULTON, N.Y. Elaborately scroll engraved case-hardened receiver, with game bird scenes to each lock plate. Checkered figured walnut straight stock of well-figured walnut and beavertail fore-end. Scroll engraved triggerguard with inlaid dog scene accented in gilt. Single trigger. Scroll engraved fore-end furniture. Blank oval gold-plated escutcheon to base of stock. Length of pull: 14-inches. Weight: 7-pounds. According to Cody Firearms Records Office, this gun's configuration is confirmed as being a Crown grade, 20 gauge, 28-inch barrels, Featherweight, Selective One-Trigger, Automatic ejectors, shipped out on May 06, 1948 and sold to: Berwick Hardware Co. A copy of this search is included in the sale of the gun, please note that this search is not a Factory Letter from Cody and is not to be accepted as a verification, per Cody Firearms Records Office statement.
NOTE: This gun was made by the L.C. Smith Company after the sale of the company by Hunter Arms in 1945. It is slightly different from the Hunter Arms made guns in that there are no patent dates on the action, there is no gold crown and the action appears to be slightly wider and the fences slightly narrower than the previous Hunter Arms 20 gauge guns.
Condition: Fine to excellent. Overall showing scattered light handling wear and very fine patches of pitting. Scuffs and dings present to wood. Action shows 30-40% case colors. Bright bores.
