Cased 12 Gauge Sidelever Hammer Double Barrel Shotgun by Stephen Grant. Serial no. 3719, 12 Gauge, 30-inch Damascus barrels with game rib marked: Stephen Grant, 67A St. James Street, London. Case-hardened Grant & Hodges patent sidelever action (use number 541) with back action rebounding locks. Action and locks engraved with very fine foliate scroll. Extractor. Percussion fences. Finely checkered straight grip stock of straight grain walnut with figure in 30% of the stock at the butt. Vacant oval. Checkered butt. Wedge fastened splinter fore-end. The gun is number 2 of a pair. Later brown canvas trunk case with brown interior. Leather trim on corners. Two brass locks. Later small Atkin, Grant & Lang label. Later handle cover.Data: Barrel Dimensions: Bores: 0.736/0.736-inches. Chokes: 0.011/0.009-inches (Improved Cylinder). Chambers: 2 3/4-inches. Minimum wall thickness: 0.0.21-inches. Proof: Birmingham Nitro Reproof, 18.7/18.7, 12-70, 850 Bar. Stock Dimensions: Pull: 14 1/2-inches. Drop at comb: 1 3/8-inches. Drop at heel: 2 1/8-inches. Cast: None. Weight: 6 pounds, 9 ounces.
Condition: Fine, as partially redone.. Barrels show 98-99% rebrowned finish with a few older pits. Excellent bright bores. Action shows a silver gray patina. Triggerplate, triggers, sidelever, triggerguard and fore-end iron and furniture show 99% reblued finish. Triggerguard appears to have been re-engraved. Refinished stock shows a 3/4 inch repaired crack at rear of top tang and a few very light marks. Fore-end shows a few light marks and an impression on the checkering. Refreshed checkering. Case in very good condition. Lid shows a 2-inch tear in the canvas. Underside shows a small tear. Leather trim shows some scuffing. Interior lid shows a one- inch repaired tear.
