    12 gauge L.C. Smith A2 Grade Double Barrel Shotgun with English Style Engraving. Serial no. 202345, 12 gauge, 30-inch Whitworth Steel barrels. Barrels marked:Sir Joseph Whitworth Fluid Compressed Steel/Made to order by the Hunter Arms Co. Fulton N.Y. Engine-turned barrel flats engraved with the serial number. Fore-end loop marked A2. Matted concave rib with gold band and scroll and floral engraved rear piece. Double white beads. Case-hardened action with bar action locks with variation two-classic English style engraving of fine scroll and bouquets with game scenes of pointers, setters, quail and waterfowl. Oak leaf engraving at top of the action. Ejectors. Hunter one single selective trigger. No safety. Blued triggerguard engraved with fine foliate scroll and bouquets. E.W. Genter inlaid in gold over engraving. Very finely checkered Prince of Wales stock of well-figured walnut. One-inch well-figured walnut extension with period red rubber recoil pad. Checkering with sculpted border, banding and stylized fleur de lis. Very finely checkered splinter fore-end with horn tip. Checkering with ornate banding. Roller fore-end release.

Stock dimensions: Pull: 14 5/8 inches. Drop at comb: 1 3/8-inches. Drop at heel: 2 3/8-inches. Weight: 7 pounds 15 ounces.
    Edward William Genter (1855-1928) was a self-made adventurer, capitalist, banker, entrepreneur and miner. Born in Ohio of German stock, he moved to the West - Colorado, Wyoming and Utah in the mid 1870s. After ranching for a few years he made a fortune in the banking business. After this, in 1906, he dabbled in a land and water company on the outskirts of Denver. In 1920 he developed an anthracite coal mine above Carbondale, Colorado. He also established a town called Camp Genter and lived there in the summers, hunting and fishing. (Photo is not included in the lot). The gun has remained in the family since bought by Mr. Genter.
    Condition: Excellent. Barrels show 96-98% bluing with slight thinning at fore-end, a few light marks, and majority of losses under fore-end. Excellent bright bores with a narrow ring of very slight corrosion at mouth of chambers. Right barrel shows two slight dents on underside. Action shows 85-90% gray casehardening with 60-70% case colors and with 30-40% bold colors. Front end underside of action shows silver gray patina from carry wear. Some screw slots show slight marring. Triggerguard shows 80-90% bluing with wear at tang. Right ejector and left lock do not cock. Stock shows a few nicks and some light marks. Recoil pad is hardened and shows losses at toe. Fore-end iron and release show a silver patina. Roller release shows a slight scratch. Well-defined checkering.
