Zachary Taylor: Folksy Campaign Bandanna. This extremely well-designed 26" x 23" bandanna features "Gen. Taylor Rough and Ready" in the central medallion, surrounded by stars, rays and a floral border. The four corners list some of his victorious battles: Matamoras, Palo Alto, Monterey and Buena Vista. It is printed in two shades of brown and is Threads #207. It exudes a naive charm. There are some small separations and holes, primarily in the lower half. Two torn areas have been carefully repaired with thread. The central medallion is in excellent shape, save for two light stains. The overall condition is very fine. This is likely the only example extant. It is a terrific display piece.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
