William Jennings Bryan: 2 1/8" Largest Size "Down with the Trusts" Button.
The Democratic National Convention was held in Denver in 1908 and Schadsky Company of Denver produced this button supporting its nominee. It associates Bryan with the "Ideal Statesmen" (Washington, Jefferson, Jackson and Lincoln) and describes them as "Enemies of Special Privilege. Upholders of Equality Before the Law". As a populist, Bryan did indeed follow in the footsteps of Jackson. Unfortunately, he was a little ahead of his time and set the stage for the election of progressive Woodrow Wilson in 1912. Measuring approximately 2 1/8" with Whitehead & Hoag back paper and name on the curl. This campaign classic was produced in a variety of sizes, this being the largest and most desirable. A near-mint example.
