William Henry Harrison: A Monumental, Large 1840 Campaign Poster. This incredible 23" x 33" specimen gets our vote as the absolute best posted of that era. The graphics are simply remarkable, as it features a portrait of Harrison, two log cabins, and two rampant eagles-one holding a Harrison & Tyler streamer in his mouth. A New York item, it also touts William H. Seward for governor or the state. Condition is equally amazing: aside from some barely noticeable light age browning it is in Excellent-to-Mint condition, rarely encountered even on smaller broadsides from this early period. We know of only one other example extant. It appeared headed for auction at Heritage several years ago before being sold privately to a major collector for a reliably-reported price of $50,000.

This example is from the collection of Merrill C. Berman, one of his personal favorites in that iconic collection, and one of the final pieces with which he has chosen to part. An opportunity which may never come again for the serious collector of early political display items.
