    Description

    Very Rare Variant of 1844 Henry Clay Brass Shell Medalist. Listed, but unpictured, by Sullivan as HC 1844-45, it differs from the familiar, similar version in two important ways: the portrait is slightly, but distinctly, different and the reverse lettering, and decorations are incised, rather than raised as in all other varieties . Excellent condition, and the only example we can recall seeing offered. Another subtle rarity from the Joe Brown Collection. Diameter 26mm.
