Silver Matthew Perry Treaty with Japan Medal. Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry is credited with opening up diplomatic and trade relations with the "closed" empire of Japan. He sailed to Japan in 1853 with a fleet of steamships, arriving at a time when Japanese leaders were receptive to outside contact after centuries of isolation. In 1854, upon his return, a group of Boston merchants, having been actively engaged in trade with China and surrounding areas for many years, commissioned a medal for presentation to these American trailblazers. The medal, measuring 66 mm. in diameter, was engraved by Francis N. Mitchell and struck at the U. S. Mint in Philadelphia in 1856. One gold medal , presented to Perry, sold in 2007 for $165,000. Twenty silver medals were given to Perry's high-ranking officers, while one hundred and seven bronze medals were given to lower-ranking officers. This example grades Extremely Fine and does not exhibit the rim bruises typically seen in such high-relief medals. It is superior to an example recently sold in New York.Auction Info

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
HA.com receives more traffic than any other auction house website. (Source: Similarweb.com)
