Abraham Lincoln: Rare Washington Medal. 31 mm. ( 1.25") silvered white metal token. King 837, Baker 231. Obverse has bust of Washington inscribed: "George Washington The Father of His Country". The reverse has bust of Lincoln inscribed: "Ab. Lincoln The Preserver of His Country". Signed by die sinker Marr. Central devices have been cleaned. Grades EF with some surface scratches. Supposedly only ten struck. Likely issued at the close of the Civil War, possibly in the period after Lincoln's assassination, although no reference is made to that event. We've not seen another.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
