    Description

Theodore Roosevelt: Full Color Equality Button. 1 1/4" button titled "Equality" showing President Theodore Roosevelt and Booker T. Washington sharing a shot of whiskey at a White House dinner. This was based on a real event that occurred early in TR's presidency. It provoked a great deal of controversy, pro and con, and inspired the making of a series of buttons. In this version, Washington seems a little-too-familiar with the President, not showing the proper deference, as he props one arm against the back of his chair. This maker of the button meant to show what would transpire if African-Americans were granted equality and social acceptance. In excellent condition save for the celluloid not completing covering the collet at 2:00. W.F. Miller back paper.
