Theodore Roosevelt: A Fantastic "Googly Eyes" Dexterity Game for the 1912 Bull Moose Candidate. Made of heavy cardboard, with each side of his pince-nez a metal cup with thin glass cover. In the center is a depression in which the player would try to roll a small metal ball to complete the pupil of the eye. Getting one side in is a cinch but doing both sides; not so much. Box underneath TR's chin reads "The Teddy Sideways glance makes the political bosses dance. To do this little stunt, make his eyes look straight in front. Then you'll vote and I'll vote and with other votes galore we'll land the Bull Moose President within the White House door." Also made in 1908 for Taft and Bryan, these novelties are extremely rare and sought-after. We have encountered but a single example of the TR and Taft, and two or perhaps three of the Bryan (one of which was from the collection of the late Tom Berg and brought $8000 in the auction of his collection). The TR measures 6" x 8", and is in excellent condition save some moisture spotting which gives it a bit of a "freckle" look, particularly above the right eye. One of the Frent's favorite items in the collection and understandably so. Pictured in Arthur Schlesinger's Running for President: The Candidates and Their Images. 1900-1992, p.80
