Winfield Scott Hancock: An Extremely Rare 1880 Campaign Flag Banner. Not to be confused with the similar design made for Blaine and Cleveland in 1884; this is a rare important political textile. In general, Hancock items are scarce, with display pieces especially so. This is the actual plate example from Collins' Thread of History (pg. 226, no. 494), and is the only one we have ever encountered. A Garfield mate is also pictured there, leaving open the tantalizing possibility of putting together a matching pair! A couple of trivial small age marks detract minimally; overall, the condition is excellent. Formerly in the legendary Kenton Broyles Collection. 17" x 24.5".
