SPECTACULAR LARGE 1856 DOUBLE SIDED FILLMORE CAMPAIGN BANNER. This striking black, blue and white banner captures the essence of the issues which propelled the Fillmore candidacy. The old Whig Party dissolved in 1856 with the more "liberal", abolitionist supporting Fremont. Fillmore retained the support of the more conservative Whigs, mainly in the north. They stood for a strong Union and were hostile to immigrants (the continuation of the "Native American" Movement). Unlisted in "Threads," although there is similarly- made Buchanan banners from the same election. (note page 142) Done on linen with the blue-colored sections sewn into place to form the border. Like the Buchanan banner, it is hand lettered and one –of-a –kind. Condition is exceptional with only hints of "aging", probably one of the best preserved banners of this era we have encountered. At 30 ½" by 29 ½ ", it is large enough to make an imposing display "presence", but not so large to be unwieldy. Beautifully and expensively custom-framed (not shown in it’s entirety in the photo), but , inexplicably it is framed with glass only on one side, so reverse can only be seen in the accompanying photo. Literally a museum piece. (# This item may require additional shipping charges).

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
