Horatio Seymour: Exuberant Folk Art Parade Banner. 31" x 19" [sight] hand-painted cotton banner with thirteen stars, a displayed eagle clutching olive branch and arrows, titled "Seymour & Blair". Signed by the artists: "Charley & Julia Colton". Vibrant colors. Double-matted and framed. We've always been partial to parade items which are among the most colorful and evocative of political paraphernalia. We cannot recall seeing any Seymour banners, although similarly designed pieces are known for other candidates in the 1860-1868 period. This is a stand-out piece which will be the focus of attention in any display of Civil War-era political items. The Frents note that over the years this vibrant banner has been one of the most commented-upon items in their collection, and rightly so. It is pictured in Schlesinger's Running for President 1789-1896, volume 1, page 298.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
