Henry Clay: Largest Size Museum Quality Portrait Flag. Threads #177, 50.5" x 25.5" [sight], double-matted and framed to an overall size of 61" x 36". The canton contains a fine portrait of Clay surrounded by an oak wreath. Twenty-six stars populate the blue field. The stripes are inscribed in blue "Clay and Frelinghuysen". Scattered minor, light damp stains with some small tears of a minor nature. Evenly toned. Colors are still strong. The overall appearance is quite nice with no major distractions from its graphic appeal. The presentation is enhanced by the high-quality archival mounting and professional framing. This most impressive textile is the largest size of any early political flag banner, and especially prized by collectors as it offers the rare possibility of "mating" it with a Polk of the same design. One of perhaps a dozen examples extant, and a definitive artifact for the "Great Compromiser".
