    Description

Frémont & Dayton: Grand National Republican Banner. This 10" x 14" hand-colored lithograph by Nathaniel Currier shows the first Republican nominees, John C. Frémont and William Dayton, beneath the Temple of Liberty and above a bucolic farming vignette. The design is highlighted in red, yellow, blue, and emerald. It is a very clean copy save for a semi-circular stain on the bottom left. Dayton narrowly beat out a young upstart by the name of Abraham Lincoln for the vice presidential nomination that year.
