Description

William Jennings Bryan: Banner from the District of Columbia. This 38" x 51" cotton banner dates from 1908. There is black lettering on both sides. One side reads: "District of Columbia Democratic Association. Edwin A. Newman, President. Organized 1896." The other side says: "The People Rule. District of Columbia Democratic Ass'n." The center has an applied, rectangular fabric frame which originally contained a paper portrait, no longer present. Given the date of its founding and the slogan (used in 1908 exclusively), we think it is a fairly safe assumption that the missing portrait was that of William Jennings Bryan. It would not be too difficult to find a replacement image. The banner is attached at the top to a wooden dowel with gold acorn finials. There is maroon woolen fringe around the three open edges. The cloth has lightly browned over the years and has a few vertical splits; however, the banner is stable and will display nicely.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
