Gerald R. Ford: Perfectly-Documented, Authenticated, Presidential-Signed Bicentennial Flag and Coins. Wonderful lot related to the President who was in office at the time of our nation's Bicentennial Celebration in 1976, consisting of a Bicentennial U.S. flag, two sets of official U.S. Mint Bicentennial coins and a "Presidential Issue" 1-oz. gold coin issued by the U. S. Mint in 1986. Five of these items, including the all-important flag, were signed by President Ford.

The centerpiece of the lot is a "3 x 5 Style A" cotton flag (actual measurements 34" x 60") with 13 stars and the number "76" in the canton. It is inscribed on the 9th stripe: "Gerald R. Ford 10/18/01" (25th anniversary of the Bicentennial). Presidentially-signed flags are very, very rare. It was displayed at the PCGS-sponsored 25th Anniversary Bicentennial Coin Reunion. The 11th stripe is signed by the three men who designed the quarter, half and dollar Bicentennial coins; namely, Dennis Williams, Seth Huntington and Jack Ahr. Until the reunion, the three design contest winners had never personally met the President. We include slabbed uncirculated examples of each silver coin (processed by Collectors Universe) each signed by the respective designer. These are numbered #16 out of an edition of 500. We then have a matching set of the same coins in silver proof, signed signed by President Ford. These are number #16 out of an edition of 150. The first three sets were given to President Ford and now reside in his Presidential Library. To top it off, we have a $50 Gold piece issued in 1986 by the U.S. Mint containing "1 oz. Fine Gold". It was slabbed and graded by PCGS and also signed by President Ford. It is #2 out of an edition of 500.

To round things out, we include a 2001 certificate signed by President Ford, featuring him, the three Bicentennial designers holding plaster models of their coins, and the finished products. The lot also has a 2012 art reference book that has a picture on the last page showing President Ford signing these coins in 2001 for the book's author.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
