    Description

Al Smith: Large Headquarters or Convention Banner. 40 1/2" x 53" banner (paper on cloth) featuring the Happy Warrior, inscribed "For President Alfred E. Smith". Made by William Wager of the Bronx. Replacement dowel at the top. Minor chipping near the bottom. A fairly clean example with no staining. Although Smith was the Democratic nominee in 1928, we feel this banner was first carried at the Democratic National Convention in New York City in 1924, when Smith was a favorite son and a key contender for the nomination.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
