    Description

    Thomas Jefferson: Scalloped-Top Sea Passport Signed. "Th: Jefferson" as the third president and countersigned by Secretary of State James Madison. One partly printed vellum page10.5" x 15.5", New York, November 18, 1802. The passport allows "the Brig Delight of New York, John Rooks master or commander, of the burthen of One Hundred Fifty-Six & 31/95 tons or thereabouts, mounted with no guns, navigated with nine men to pass with her Company, Passengers, Goods, and Merchandize, without any hindrance, seizure or molestation." With maritime vignettes and a blind-embossed seal in the lower left corner. This document, listed as number "140," has folds.
