    Description

Sam Houston, Henry Clay et al: Circa 1852 Campaign Cartoon. 11" x 7.75" lithograph cartoon titled "Soliciting A Vote." Published in January 1852 by artist and lithographer John L. Magee of New York. It depicts a hassled voter (possibly a plantation overseer as he holds a whip in his hand) resisting the entreaties of Webster, Houston, Douglas and Scott. Henry Clay (and perhaps Thomas Benton) appear on the left, disinclined to enter the fray. A few minor border tears along the top.
