Revolutionary War: New Hampshire Election Document. 7" x 11" circular, originally dated September 1776, but used on October 31, 1778, signed by Meshech Weare (1713-1786) as President of the New Hampshire Council and John Langdon as Speaker. Langdon would serve as Governor of the State and was a signer of the U. S. Constitution. The document, directed to the Selectmen of Dover, demands that they meet and elect two qualified property holders to represent Dover in the State Council. This document was mailed "On Public Service To The Selectmen of Dover" (as indicated on verso) with no postage charged. It is docketed, as well, with the names of the men elected (John Wentworth and Major Caleb Hodgdon and signed by three Selectmen of Dover). Hinged at top with linen tape to a larger sheet.
