    Description

    "We may be wrong..."

Martin Van Buren: Partisan Political Pundit Broadside. Fun 12" x 16 1/2" broadside, titled "Next President" attempting to predict the results of the 1840 election. It lists the results of state elections in 1836 when the candidates were Van Buren, Harrison, White, Mangum and Webster. In the re-match between Van Buren and Harrison, the publisher declares: "We reckon 18 States for Van Buren... 3 States for Harrison... 5 States doubtful..." A disclaimer at the bottom says: "We may be wrong, but this is our opinion!" Given the benefit of hindsight, we reckon he was wrong! Archivally matted and framed in burl walnut.
