Lincoln Assassination: Elaborate "Extra-Illustrated" Scrapbook. Extensive "Album of Lincoln Engravings and Photos" assembled by Col. Arnold A. Rand, a Civil War veteran and Lincoln collector. His primary focus was on the war-time photographs of Brady and Gardner. Together with General Albert Ordway, he owned a sizable collection of Brady negatives and was subsequently able to acquire 2000 Gardner negatives. The entire collection was offered to Congress, but the offer was rejected. The Rand-Ordway Collection was eventually sold to Hartford photographer John C. Taylor. This hefty album measures 14" x 12 ½" x 3 ½" and contains fifty [50] two-sided leaves. The mounted items include period engravings, sheet music covers, woodcuts, lithographs, photographs, post-assassination photogravures, magazine illustrations, CDV's, etc. Some of the highlights include a paper proof of a Lincoln & Hamlin jugate campaign ribbon and a large Lincoln albumen photograph (O-70). Some pages have single items, but most have multiple items. Scattered chipping to corners of albums leaves, first leaf reattached. Contents are excellent.
