    Description

Henry Clay: Great 1844 Letter Referencing Clay Campaign Ribbon. The writer, in Philadelphia writes in May 1844 this cover letter for an enclosed "badge" (undoubtedly a silk ribbon) "assigned for the Clay Club Associations having understood that you will require some for your County and the coming State Convention as also for parades, meetings during the contest for election of a President." He notes that he plans to add the name of the Vice Presidential Candidate and that the name of a particular County, Township, or Association can also be incorporated. He goes on to solicit an order. The price? $6.00 per hundred! A great companion piece to display with a Clay Campaign ribbon. 7.75" x 9.75", in beautiful condition. From the Scott W. Dolson Collection.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
