    George Washington: Washington Monument Archive. All the items in this lot relate to the familiar obelisk at the end of the Washington Mall known as the Washington Monument. 1) 3" x 6" silk ribbon issued to commemorative the laying of the corner stone on October 19, 1847, 2) a book containing orations given at the Dedication of The Washington National Monument on February 21, 1885 (tears to end papers and frontispiece tissue barrier, else very fine), 3) another Dedication Speech 37-page book in titled wraps with presentation inscription on cover by the author, Robert C. Winthrop, 4) a stereo view on yellow mount of the monument under construction (faults), 5) a 7 x 9" engraved contribution certificate for $2, completed in manuscript, with bust of Washington, 6) similar to #5, but for $1.50, 7) 7" x 8.5" contribution certificate for $2 illustrated with a proposed, but not adopted design, 8) similar to #7, but for $10, 9) similar to #8, but measuring 9" x 12" with facsimile signatures of nine sponsors, including five Presidents, issued for $1, 10) a 8" x 11" $1 contribution receipt on blue paper, enrolling the donor in the "Washington National Monument Association" with two views of the proposed monument and facsimile signature of President Zachary Taylor, and 11) a 3" china cup issued for the dedication of the monument with brown transfers and red, blue and gold trim (the only example we have ever seen). It depicts the monument and has the dates of the laying of the corner stone, the cap stone and the dedication. Condition on the certificates vary.
