George B. McClellan: Anti-Lincoln Cartoon. Currier & Ives published this 17" x 13" cartoon in 1864 titled: "Abraham's Dream! 'Coming Events Cast Their Shadows Before.'" Abe has a nightmare in which he is kicked out from the White House by an angry Lady Liberty while McClellan enters as the new occupant. The cartoon is full of imagery and allusions. Lady Liberty holds aloft the severed head of an African-American. Lincoln wears the cloak and Tartan hat supposedly used when sneaking through Baltimore en route to his 1861 inauguration. He carries the famous "To Whom It May Concern" letter addressing war-time goals. The subtitle ties into Lincoln's love of the theater and Shakespeare in particular. Outside of one tiny loss to one corner, it is in excellent shape.
