    Description

Andrew Jackson: Federal Patronage Cartoon. Andrew Jackson is credited with the notion that "To the victor belongs the spoils." Once elected President, he was quick to oust Adams appointees and replace them with loyal Jacksonians. In this 12" x 10.5" lithographed cartoon titled "The Rats Entering a New House", Jackson writes out a long list of appointments, attracting a group of hungry rats eager for government jobs. Jackson is described as "Firm as a Rock" on a pillar. In the Scales of Justice, the Liberal Party outweighs the Polignac Party (Prince de Polignac was appointed Prime Minister of France in 1829). The rat in the bottom right corner looks a lot like Henry Clay, but he is about to be chased away or devoured by the White House cat (Socks?). The condition is excellent.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
