Abraham Lincoln: In-the-Field Proclamation of Amnesty for the Use of the Military. 5.75" x 9.25" bifolium sheet, titled "Proclamation of Amnesty." It is related to M-191 which included both Lincoln's State of the Union Address and his December 8, 1863 "Proclamation of Amnesty". This is a separate printing of the proclamation ("The following Proclamation is appended to the Message"). This is the proclamation that Lincoln referred to countless times in the short notes he wrote that stipulated "Let this man take the oath". There are three pages of type. A printed "Oath of Allegiance" (glued onto a report of lost military stores) is attached on the back page, signed in type by Henry A. Urban, Lieutenant and A.D.C. [Aide-de-Camp]. The oath is printed with a blank space for the name of the person taking the oath and the date. There is also a space for people who know the oath-taker and "certify on honor that we know Mr. [blank] to be a true and loyal man to the Federal Government." A significant rarity.
