Description
Abraham Lincoln: In 1862 Lincoln Authorizes His Old Friend and De Facto Campaign Manager to Conduct Diplomacy for the United States.Signing as president, Lincoln authorizes the U. S. envoy to Prussia to "exchange ratification of the Treaty wtih Hanover for the abolition of the trade dues."
A longtime Illinois political ally, Judd helped Lincoln strategize for the Lincoln-Douglas debates and placed his name in a nomination at the 1860 Republican National Convention. A member of the party's national committee, he helped secure the Chicago location -- Lincoln's home turf -- for the convention, and helped assure that Lincoln's opponents would be seated in the "cheap seats." His loyalty was rewarded by Lincoln with a prestigious diplomatic appointment.
Partially printed and signed in full by the President, bluish gray paper, 8" x 10". Excellent condition, with trivial hint of toning around perimeter. Three spindle holes on left side, not uncommon in such documents. Lincoln's signature is clean and clear, with some lightness to "in" and "n" in Lincoln as written.
