    Abraham Lincoln: Assassination and Secession Crisis Letters. 1) 4-page letter with envelope, written from Bondville, Vermont on February 7, 1861. In part: "How is the political feeling at Norwich these days. does our good Democratic brethren think it best to let South Carolina rule the nation. It seems to be a dark day in our Nation just now and I suppose the administration men will say the Republicans have done it... they have elected a President and that seems to be what has done it. astonishingly the majority has ruled and slaveocracy is defeated..." Envelope lacks stamp. 2) 2-page letter written April 15, 1865. "The last act of horror in the fearful tradgedy [sic] has been performed. high handed treason in the hour of her overthrow and shame, baffled in her attempts to destroy the nation has in her rage and revenge laid her assassin arm upon the honored chief magistrate of the nation, and that great and noble patriot Abraham Lincoln has fallen a victim to the malignant hatred of overthrown slavery..."
