    Description

Abraham Lincoln: 1864 Election Racist Commentary. 7 ½" x 9 ½" 3-page letter, Acushnet [Massachusetts], October 8, 1864, written by J. F. Keen to his brother William in San Francisco. He initially offers some investing advice gleaned from their father: "... if you can buy green backs at 40 or 50 cent on the dollar, it will be the best thing you can do. Gold is worth $2.00 now so you can see that you can make fifty cents on the dollar at least by selling your gold wher you are and by green backs... be shure and not run any risk as there are so many rogues out there..." Turning to politics, and mincing no words, he reports: "The great excitement of the day is on the Election of President, if Lincoln is elected we shall have 4 years of nigger war more, if McLellan is elected we shall have peace and happiness throughout our land, Massachusetts. Of course Will, go nigger or Black Republican as you call. If but McLellan will run well and we hope the great west will do her duty. If she does we have nothing to fear." We hope this guy was better with investment advice than in predicting election results!

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
