Abraham Lincoln: 1863 State of the Union and Amnesty Proclamation Imprint. M-191. 5.75" x 8.75" booklet bound in thread, titled "Amnesty Proclamation and Third Annual Message of Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, Read in Congress, Wednesday, December 9, 1863." 20pp. Superb condition. This was the proclamation referred to by Lincoln countless times in his brief notes directing "Let this man take the oath of December 9, 1863." The policy was an effort to wean away war-weary Confederate soldiers who had been captured or whose terms of enlistment had expired. A example with faults sold at a New York auction house for $2750 while another example in very good condition sold at a Chicago-area auction for $4250. We are selling a related pamphlet in this sale, designed for us by the military in-the-field.
